Trip to Denmark — The Island of Mørs
From Legoland, we traveled north to the island of Mørs, where Steen and Kirsten live. Kirsten is a photographer (ah, the power of the internets! I was able to find an example of her work to post here):
[Strangely enough, I got this image from the Grinnell College art gallery website—some of her photographs were in an exhibit on Scandinavian photography that was open while many of us were actually in Grinnell last summer! If we'd only known, we would have stopped by. I guess that explains why there was a photograph taken in Grinnell in a Danish photography book that we saw at Steen and Kirsten's house. But I digress.]
And Steen is a sculptor, artist, and architect. I was also able to find an image of some of his work here:
Steen and Kirsten were just finishing a new addition on their house, and they graciously allowed us to use the room. Waveboy and Waterboy enjoyed figuring out the many ways to travel from one part of the house to another. And Waterboy liked to hide from us:
Shortly after we arrived, we went to a nearby beach to explore the cliffs:
On Sunday, July 30, we traveled to the coast on the way to Hantsholm. Waterboy again enjoyed playing with rocks, . . .
. . . having a swim, . . .
. . . and an ice cream.
Along the beach, tractors pull up the fishing boats, and you can buy fish right off the boats.
Steen, Kirsten, Dada, Waveboy, and Waterboy inspecting the catch:
We took a little tiny ferry back to Mørs. (We'd left the island via the bridge route.)
Before we left, Waveboy created an elaborate structure out of small logs he found. He was hoping it would be strong enough to withstand the storm that was heading in. An expression of a primative urge to create shelter?
And in my searching for images of Steen and Kirsten's work, I found these nice phots of them from an exhibit opening.
