Denmark Trip - Part 3

After two nights at Mathies and Kristen's, we returned to Henning and Bodil's house for two nights. On Monday, July 24, we went to Roskilde to visit the Viking Ship Museum.

They have five recovered viking ships, including this one:















They also have a number of Viking-related activities. Waveboy enjoyed making a Viking shield:















He wanted to design his own rather than use one of the stencils, but he did write his name in Runes (the Viking alaphabet):

After visiting the Viking Ship Museum, we went to the Lejre Experimental Centre--it's an open-air museum with different displays that allow visitors to try different types of activities that a person living at different times in the past might have had to do--like making clay pots or starting a fire without matches. Some families even come and live at the Centre for up to a week--living as Iron Age families or 19th century farmers--but we didn't get to see any of them.
